IWBA Championships

The NIWBA representatives all fell at the semi final stages of the IWBA Championships in CYM, Dublin. On Friday evening, Jennifer McClure and Bridget Smith had a great tussle with the NIWPGL pair skipped by Linda McDowell. Despite going behind early on the Castle Park pair fought back only to be pipped by 1 shot in the last end.

In the triples Mia Patterson, Teri Millar and Doreen Wheelan from Lurgan were well in the game at 12 ends against Bernie O'Neill from the PTWBA, but lost out in the run in.

In the Senior Fours, Frances Cartwright,, Vera Mohan, Ann Patton and Esther Forster from Markethill had a nip and tuck battle with the ILBI rink but lost the last 3 ends to lose by 6.

On Saturday in the Fours, one bad end cost the Markethill rink of Vera Mohan, Wendy Cassells, Pauline Beattie and Laura Cassells against the NIWPGL rink skipped by Chloe Wilson. The NIWBA rink matched their opponents for most of the game but lost by 7, with a loss of a 6 during the game proving costly.

In the singles, Dungannon's Ann McKiver had a great battle with the PTWBA's Shauna O'Neill. Initially Ann was behind but pulled back to level the match at 15 all, but despite a valiant effort eventually fell to 21-17 defeat.

So, it wasn't to be for the NIWBA this year, but the association can be proud of their players' performances and the supporters that made the trip to Dublin.
