Congratulations Portadown and Curran
The Finals of the Wingrave Cup and Mary Moore Trophy took place yesterday at Castle Park, Newcastle.
It was a lovely sunny afternoon and of course the views are always spectacular at this venue.
Portadown came out winners against Newcastle:
Portadown 63 v Newcastle 36
It has been a great season for Portadown, having already won the Senior League with 3 games still to play. They have been at the top of the league all season, and to date have only lost one match and that was against their Co. Armagh neighbours Lurgan.
Portadown have retained the Senior League as they won it in 2019, and because of Covid19 there was no competitive NIWBA bowling in 2020/2021.
Curran have played some very close games with Markethill and as they very narrowly lost the Joyce Kavanagh Trophy to Markethill by 3 shots, this will be a very pleasing victory.
Result of Mary Moore Trophy:
Curran 33 v Markethill 18
Markethill are top of the Junior League, and in a very strong position to win it with 2 games to play. They are unbeaten in the league and if they do win it in their first season in the NIWBA, it would be a remarkable achievement.
Curran - winners of the Mary Moore Trophy
